I am an associate professor of early modern Dutch literature at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and director of the Graduate School of Humanities.
My research focuses on the manuscript circulation of texts, the interaction between manuscript and print, social authorship, coterie reading and text collecting (anthologies and miscellanies) between 1500 and 1850. I am currently studying eighteenth-century Dutch trompe-l'oeil books: handmade copies of printed texts and images. For more information, see my blog Print not Print.
Previously I published on late medieval and early modern poetic theory and literary institutions (e.g. in my PhD thesis on 'chambers of rhetoric'/ rederijkerskamers), on early modern women writers, and on the reception of Portuguese and Spanish literature in the Netherlands.
I started to teach in 1994 and have been working as a lecturer in Utrecht, Nijmegen, Paris and Amsterdam. In 2013, I obtained a Senior Teaching Qualification. Ever since I have been a member of KnowVU, the VU Teaching Knowledge Network, and I am one of the representatives of KnowVU at the Faculty of Humanities.
In my courses I always strive to connect research and teaching, especially so in the MA course The Material Book.
