MSc
Rieneke Stelma-Roorda studied Law (LLM, 2015) at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Children’s Rights (MSc, 2016) at Queen’s University Belfast and Legal Research (LLM, 2017) at the University of Groningen. After working as junior researcher and lecturer at VU Amsterdam, she joined the VU / NSCR as a PhD candidate in February 2017. Rieneke’s PhD research concerns the Dutch 'levenstestament', an instrument enabling adults to make provisions for a future period of incapacity (due to e.g. dementia). The project aims to explore, by means of a multidisciplinary study (legal-normative, empirical and comparative research), how this instrument can be positioned within the changing national and international landscape regarding the empowerment and protection of adults with impaired capacity. In addition to finishing her PhD research, Rieneke is as of September 2021 conducting research in and responsible for the project-management of the NWA-ORC project 'Towards a new balance in empowerment and protection of the elderly', led by prof. Masha Antokolskaia.
