Personal information

Roos den Uyl currently works at the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL) and is a visiting researcher at IVM. She studies issues in the field of environmental governance. Her current research includes two strands. First, understanding and evaluating policy in the field of agriculture, environment and water quality (manure policy, policy on crop protection agents, Water Framework Directive). Second, understanding institutional responses to new empirical fields (such as climate adaptation).

Education

2014: PhD degree, received 12 November 2014, Utrecht University (UU), in the field of governance for sustainable development, at the research group Environmental Governance, Copernicus Institute for Sustainable Development. Supervisors: prof. dr. P.P.J. Driessen (UU) and prof. dr. D. Huitema (IVM, VU University Amsterdam). The research concerns the analysis of three governance approaches (i.e. adaptive management, transition management, payments for environmental services) from a perspective of governance for sustainable development – specified in terms of equity, legitimacy, democracy & participation, scale issues, uncertainty issues – in concept, and in the empirical context of the Dutch fen landscape. (Assessment committee: prof. dr. J.P. Voss, Technical University Berlin; prof. dr. N. Aarts, University of Amsterdam and WUR; prof. dr. J. Edelenbos, Erasmus University Rotterdam; prof. dr. J. Verhoeven, UU and prof. dr. Martin Wassen, UU).
