Personal information

Rodrigo Romero-Silva is an Assistant Professor (non-tenured) at the department of Operations Analytics of the Vrije Universiteit and an Assistant Professor at Universidad Panamericana in Mexico. Before, he was affiliated to the University of Applied Sciences in Amsterdam as a postdoc. He obtained his PhD in Industrial Engineering at Tecnun, University of Navarra in 2012.

Research

My global research interests focus on the development of discrete-event simulation models to better evaluate and understand the behavior of complex, dynamic, stochastic systems with multiple actors and capacity-constrained resources. Such complex environments are currently very relevant as they are prevalent on real supply chain settings. My main objective is to provide researchers, decision-makers and practitioners with better understanding and intuition regarding the effects that different capabilities, factors and policies have on business, societal and environmental performance.

Teaching

My teaching includes graduate and undergraduate courses in The Netherlands and Mexico regarding Global Supply Chain Management, Inventory and Production Management, Discrete-Event Simulation, System Dynamics, Queueing Theory, Markov Chains, Decision Analysis, Business Processes, and Multi-criteria Decision Making. I have also supervised multiple students in their Bachelor Thesis process and mentored student teams in international simulation competitions with great results.
