Roma de la Torre y Rivas, MSc

Roma de la Torre y Rivas is a PhD candidate within the project ROBOT-BOND. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Research Master's degree in Social & Health Psychology. Her research interest lies at the intersection of child well-being and child-robot interaction. This interest is shaped by years long hands-on experience working with children with psychological difficulties and neurodivergence. She is motivated to ensure that every child has access to support that helps them thrive, a conviction that continues to shape her work.

The focus of her research within the ROBOT-BOND project is how children in primary education form meaningful bonds with social robots, and how these bonds can support learning, independence, and emotional well-being. Additionally, she explores how these interventions can be made more didactically grounded, moving beyond ad hoc educational interventions toward designs rooted in established learning principles, and examining how this shift influences outcomes like engagement, learning gains, and the child-robot bond itself. The research of her PhD project combines methods like focus groups, experimental studies and randomized controlled trials.

Roma teaches in the AI bachelor course Robot Interaction and supervises bachelor theses.
