Personal information

Sabine Go is an assistant professor at the department of Accounting of the VU. She obtained her PhD at the Vrije Universiteit in 2009.

Research

My research is focused on the emergence and development of economic institutions during early modern times in the Low Countries. My current research concerns the occurrence and evolution of contract enforcement mechanisms and the way these have affected economic development in general and behaviour of parties to an industry in particular.

Prizes and Awards

- Received a Grant as PI from NWO (Internationalisering in de Geesteswetenschappen) for the project "Risky Business: Pricing, Governance, and integration in European Insurance Markets, c 1400- c 1870".  The project is a collaboration with Dr Giovanni Ceccarelli (University of Parma) and Dr Adrian Leonard (University of Cambridge).

- Awarded the Charles Wendell Research Grant of the New Netherland Institute, Albany, New York, USA.

- Member at the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) in Princeton, New Jersey, USA (fall semester 2018)

- Received an ERC Consolidator Grant as a member of a team led by Professor Maria Fusaro from the University of Exeter to investigate the development of legislation and procedures concerning 'averij grosse' during the early modern period.
