Personal information

Sarah Eskens researches and teaches privacy, data protection, media, and online platform law. She is an expert in the General Data Protection Regulation (‘GDPR’) (in Dutch: Algemene Verordening Gegevensbescherming (‘AVG’)), the Digital Services Act (‘DSA’) (in Dutch: Digitaledienstenverordening), and the rights to privacy and freedom of expression as protected in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU and the European Convention on Human Rights.

Her current research focuses on the way the EU tries to tackle disinformation through a mix of policy and legal measures. In her research, she looks specifically at the (Strengthened) Code of Practice on Disinformation, the Digital Services Act, and the proposals for a Political Advertising Regulation and European Media Freedom Act (‘EMFA’).

Sarah works as an Assistant Professor in Law and Technology. She coordinates the master's specialisation International Technology Law. She also coordinates and teaches a course on European data protection law, and she teaches several lectures on platform and media law. Finally, Sarah coordinates the internships and master’s theses for the International Technology Law specialisation.
