Sander is a professor of Logistics & Operations Management at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and an adjunct professor of Supply Chain Management at Nottingham Business School in Nottingham, UK. Sander is specializing in Supply Chain and Operations Management, a field of business in which he has over twenty years of teaching, research and consulting experience. Upon completion of his PhD, Sander has held positions at MIT’s Center for Technology, Policy and Industrial Development, at Babson College and at Eindhoven University of Technology. Prior to joining academia full time in 2008, Sander has been a management consultant for close to 10 years, amongst others at KPMG. Sander has an MSc (1992) and a PhD (1996) in Industrial Engineering/Management Science from Eindhoven University (the Netherlands).
Research
Sander’s research activities are focused on empirical and data driven research. The main research interests of Sander are in online retail logistics where he focuses on the relation between logistics and consumer behavior and on inventory management in online retail. He is also active in not-for-profit (specifically humanitarian) supply chains. He works amongst others with all the major NGOs and UN organizatons on developing and implementing a Balanced Scorecard for humanitarian supply chain management and with the local foodbank on optimizing their processes.

Sander is the director of the BSc Bedrijfskunde programme. He is involved in teaching the following courses:
