My research and teaching are focused on the development, assessment and treatment of social functioning of individuals with and without psychopathology, in particular autism. I am keen to find new approaches to assess the limitations in social functioning of individuals with autism, and use these to assess treatment effects and innovate treatments. I co-founded the Netherlands Autism Register (NAR),, a large longitudinal cohort of individuals with autism (n=2000) which is surveyed yearly. I strive for close collaboration with and individual dissemination of outcomes to affected individuals. These efforts are reflected in the teaching in our department, where we aim to translate fundamental research to clinical practise within the domain of psychopathology.
