Personal information

Sophie de Bruin is a PhD Candidate at IVM. In her PhD research she focuses on future scenarios of environmental change and the possible consequences for violent conflict, migration and equity. 

Besides her work at VU Amsterdam, she works as an independent research consultant. Currently, she works for the FAO on the State of Food Insecurity 2023 report.

Before, she worked for diverse organisations including the PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency, Clingendael Institute, Utrecht University and local water boards. She gained expertise on the dynamics of and between multiple global sustainable development topics, including human-water dynamics, food systems, conflict risk and climate adaptation.
