Personal information
Suzanne de Jong (1989) is working as a PhD student at the department of Clinical Neuropsychology, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU). Her research focusses on the effectiveness of a self-help parenting program for children who show hyperactive and/or disruptive behavior. She is especially interested in the (mediators and moderators ) of the effectiveness of treatments.
Research
The aims of the study into the effectiveness of the self-help parenting program (Dutch: Aan de Slag met Druk en Opstandig Gedrag) are:
-To investigate the effect of the self-help parenting program for parents of children (aged 4 to 11), who show hyperactive and/or disruptive behavior, on primary outcomes (behavior targeted with the program and disruptive behavior of the child) and secondary outcomes (ADHD symptoms, psychosocial functioning and consumption of care of the child, and parenting competence and parenting style).
- To investigate potential moderators of the effectiveness of the program, i.e. parenting sense of competence, parents’ ADHD symptoms and personality characteristics, parents’ motivation and expectance regarding to the program, child’s IQ, neurocognitive functioning, sensitivity to reward and punishment and parents’ and child’s demographic data.
-To exploratory compare the effectiveness of the self-help parenting program with versus without weekly telephone support by the researchers.
The project has been developed by the Vrije Universiteit (Amsterdam) in collaboration with Rijksuniversiteit Groningen and Accare (Child and Adolescent Psychiatry)
