Tim Busker is a PhD Researcher at the department of Water and Climate Risk of the Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM) at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Tim has a background in flood risk management, remote sensing and hydrological forecasting. In his PhD research he will further specialize in anticipatory water management to reduce flood and drought risk, using meteorological forecasting techniques. As part of the RESILIO project, Tim investigates the potential of blue-green roofs to reduce pluvial flood risk in Amsterdam. It will be assessed if the value of these green infrastructures can increase if they anticipate on the precipitation forecast. Furthermore, Tim will focus on anticipatory drought management in the Horn of Africa using ECMWF forecasts. Hereby he contributes to the DOWN2EARTH project, which aims to increase drought resilience and food security in the drylands of Kenya, Ethiopia and Somalia.
