Personal information

My research centres on lowland river systems, and particularly how their landscapes and fluvial processes have changed over the last millennia by climate change and human action. I am currently involved in projects on the Meuse, the river Nile and several large rivers in Central Asia in which we investigate the effects of hydroclimatic change on ancient societies. With process-based knowledge, derived from geomorphology and sedimentological data, on flood regime changes and information on past extreme flooding events it is our goal to enhance current and future flood risk assessments, and its associated health risks.
