Personal information
Wouter Werner is professor international law at the Centre for the Politics of Transnational Law. In 2022 he finished his project on practices of repetition in international law, with a focus on restatements, moot courts and cinematic representations of international law. This resulted in the book "Repetition and International Law", published by Cambridge University Press. In 2018 Wouter Werner received a Kaete Hamburger scholarship, in 2022 a Braudel fellowship at the European University, Florence. His currect research focuses on the notion of the absurd in international law, the evolution of customary law and re-enactment practices in international law.
One of the outputs of his research is the so-called 'experimental moot court' inspired by Bertolt Brecht's ideas on rehearsing. For this see https://www.ejiltalk.org/a-brechtian-way-of-mooting/
He teaches the following courses: Theories and Approaches to War and Collective Security, International Humanitarian Law, Documentary Film and International Law, The Law and Politics of Fencing the Use of force.
