Project Details
Description
This project contributes to the Rijksdienst voor het Cultureel Erfgoed’s strategic exploration of the impact of extreme climate scenarios on Dutch heritage. Through an environmental humanities perspective, it develops and analyses adaptation pathways for diverse heritage types—ranging from urban and archaeological to landscape and movable heritage. The project examines how cultural values, historical narratives, and local communities shape decision-making under conditions of climate uncertainty. By combining historical examples, interviews, and visual mapping of critical tipping points, the research highlights the normative choices embedded in adaptation planning and explores how futures of loss, transformation, and revaluation can be made part of heritage policy. The results feed into national adaptation strategies and RCE’s future preparedness.
