Project Details

Description

PhD project at the University of Western Australia (Perth, AU), supported by a University Postgraduate Scholarship for International Students. Self-designed project studying un(der)employed educated youth in rural Indonesia. Offered a solid basis to rethink popular discourses that associate un(der)employed youth with social threats, showing that they act as a vital, positive force in rural society. Particular focus was on young people’s educated subjectivities in relation to gendered ideals of self-responsibilisation and modernity, experiences of tradition, and images of rural stagnation. Supervisors: Prof Lyn Parker, Dr Gregory Acciaioli (both UWA).
