Description

Happy Children, Happy Adolescents? is a longitudinal research project among elementary schoolchildren on their behavioural, social-emotional, cognitive and bio-psychological development during elementary school. This is a multi-cohort study that started in 2011. Children from the oldest cohort were first assessed when they were in grade 1 (Dutch group 3). The middle cohort was in K2 (Dutch: group 2) at their first assessment and the youngest cohort was assessed for the first time in 2012 when they were in K1 (Dutch group 1). Data was obtained annually during school visits by trained research assistants. Participating schools were mainstream Dutch elementary schools situated in an urban area in the central part of the Netherlands and a rural area in the eastern part of the Netherlands. The majority of children (~ 80%) had a Dutch ethnical background and the majority (88.7%) came from high socioeconomic status households.
