Project Details

Description

The project’s overall objective is to analyze when, how and why Roman impact transformed the settlement landscapes of pre- and para-roman societies of the Roman West between 200 BC and 200 AD. By taking a long-term view, the project aims specifically to understand a.) how Rome came to establish the empire as a
territorial entity and whether regional or chronological differences in the settlement landscapes can be identified and substantiated and b.) if the analysis of the settlement landscapes will reveal specific policies or an underlying strategy on Rome’s behalf.
