Abstract

In this chapter, I analyse Dutch 20th century VU-theologian G.C. Berkouwer’s cautious navigating of the questions of human origin in the context of the interpretation of the first chapters of Genesis on the one hand and the growing evidence for neo-Darwinian evolution on the other. Berkouwer's attitude was typical for the way in which Dutch neo-Calvinism in his days started to abandon its fierce opposition towards crucial parts of mainstream science and gradually adopted a more constructive, accommodating posture.
