Asylum decision-making, gender and sexuality

Research output: Chapter in Book / Report / Conference proceedingChapterAcademic

Abstract

This chapter addresses gender and sexuality in asylum decision making. It addresses the refugee definition; subsidiary protection; asylum procedures; and credibility issues related to sexual orientation and traumatised asylum applicants. Specific attention is paid to EU legislation on these points, as well as to the relevant case law of the two European Courts. It will become clear that the field contains a number of internal tensions and inconsistencies which could be explored so as to trigger better protection.
