Abstract

Book review article on recent works in the history of emotions by Peter N. Stearns, Barbara Rosenwein and Riccardo Cristiani. "These books consolidate the rich research of the past two decades. Rosenwein and Cristiani describe successive attempts to shape comprehensive theoretical and methodological models, while Peter N. Stearns in Shame: a brief history knits together dispersed analyses of the emotion of shame in individual cultures. Both books assess the state of the field and sketch possible futures."
