Abstract
Recent research using CCTV footage reveals that bystanders play a crucial role in de-escalating public conflicts. Contrary to the findings of laboratory studies, which suggested that bystanders in groups remain passive during emergencies, real-life conflicts show that bystanders, whether alone or in groups, often actively intervene and stop violence. As such, bystanders can serve as a valuable resource for conflict management.
