Abstract
This column discusses the pros and cons of low interest rates for the Netherlandse. All in all, the low interest rate for this country is more a disaster than a blessing. It is especially beneficial for people and countries who are in debt and have no idea that debts must be paid off. Or in the case of public debt as a burden is passed on to future generations. The latter is not so bad when all the money is used for investments that benefit these generations. But often it is about spending and fun plans that generate political gain. And the low interest rate is a disaster for the countries with large savings. Such as for the Netherlands with its huge pension capital.
