Abstract
In June 2019 Karel Adriaan Deurloo (1936-2019) passed away, one of the most well-known Bible scholars of the last decades in the Netherlands. His way of explaining the Bible was surprising, relevant and inspiring for generations of Bible readers. He was always concerned with what the text has to say: that text is not just the object of research but has its own voice that still appeals to the reader now.
What was his secret? This book follows the trail of his many publications and attempts to unlock the secret of Karel Deurloo's reading strategy. Not only to honour him and to highlight several gems of his way of reading, but also to encourage new readers to take new paths, while retaining what can be learned from an enthusiastic and expert Bible reader.
