Abstract
The main purpose of this study was to investigate and report on the psycho-metric properties of an innovative virtual reality (VR) situational judgment test (SJT), aimed to measure leadership. The VR-SJT provided a total score and two subscores, namely for task-oriented leadership and people-oriented leadership. Data were gathered in a high-stakes selection situation, in which 121 job candidates took part. The reliability of the instrument was adequate and the construct validity with a video-SJT measuring leadership was demonstrated. Convergent and discriminant validity were demonstrated for people-oriented leadership, but not for task-oriented leadership. The VR-SJT did not correlate with cognitive ability and correlated negatively with HEXACO domains honesty-humility, extraversion, and agreeableness. Applicant reactions towards the VR-SJT were positive and participants rated the instrument to be more enjoyable and modern than a video-SJT.
