Did the Trinitarian Renaissance Starve the Death of a Thousand Qualifications? Christoph Schwöbel's Contribution to an Ongoing Revival

In this chapter it is explored why Schwöbel became excited about the doctrine of the Trinity in the early 1990s and what happened to this excitement during the subsequent decades, which saw some fierce criticisms of the “Trinitarian renaissance” (as he had coined the movement). To what extent did Schwöbel stand his case, and to what extent did he tone down his voice in response to what he had come to see as real problems? In an attempt to take stock of the Trinitarian renaissance, it turns out that while Schwöbel may have belittled some of the concerns uttered against it, he managed to incorporate most of them in his overall theological framework. Abstaining from all polemics, Schwöbel went on to do constructive theology in a trinitarian mode, well aware of the fact that the proof of the pudding could only be in the eating.
