Abstract
People express disgust toward a wide array of objects and situations, including those related to infectious disease, those related to sexuality, and those related to moral violations. Such variety has inspired an array of proposals regarding disgust's structure and its function. This chapter gives and overview of these proposals, and it offers some suggestions for future research. In particular, it highlights challenges faced by disgust researchers, including measuring and interpreting variability in disgust sensitivity, measuring specific experiences of disgust, and evaluating accounts of disgust's cultural/evolutionary origin.
