Abstract
Developments in policy and society have resulted in the establishment of Centers for Youth and Family (CJG) and an increased attention for ‘Eigen Kracht‘ (Dutch for ‘empowerment’)interventions.
The aim of this paper is to give an overview of the use of these interventions and the major factors playing a role in their implementation. For this purpose a framework based on the central concepts of Eigen Kracht-interventions: collaboration and empowerment, has been composed. Next, digital questionnaires were completed by eleven provincial policymakers and semi-structured interviews were held with 26 CJG-coordinators. CJG’s offer many interventions of which only a few are included in the Database Effective Interventions of the Dutch Youth Institute. Factors such as a needed change in vision and the associated costs seem to play a more important role than empirical evidence. CJG-coordinators have little insight into the use of interventions and monitoring hardly happens. Since many CJG’s have been set up recently, more time is needed to implement interventions.
