Abstract

This chapter outlines the historical background of the revolts that challenged the post-dictatorial political contract and mode of democracy in Greece, the so called "metapolitefsi". Revolts which articulated a political culture of disobedience and resistance which eventually led to the eruption of the December 2008 revolt. By looking into the most critical moments of unmaking the "metapolitefis", the chapter discuss the continuities and discontinuities among various revolts and dynamic mass movements in Greece, and the creation of an insurrectionary imagination which culminated in the December 2008 revolt. Yet, at the same time it discuss the later not only as an explosion, but rather as part of the implosion of the configuration of social and political contestation and institutions in Greece.
