Abstract

In this paper it is argued that it was not Leonard Bloomfield who introduced the term 'exocentric' into modern linguistic terminology. This term was already used by other linguists such as Karl Brugmann and Aleksander Aleksandrov, and one could say that Bloomfield just anglicized it. It might be the case that Aleksandrov borrowed the term from his teacher Baudouin de Courtenay.
