Abstract

Speakers’ spontaneous gestures have been shown to relate in various ways to the grammatical constructions they are using. There is a range of degrees to which different constructions “attract” gesture use. The gesture-construction relation is sometimes subtle, e.g., appearing in the movement quality of gestures, as opposed to other form features. Research on this topic leads to new views on how constructions may be constituted
