Abstract
Landscape is experienced and conceived of in many different ways, which may conflict with the appreciation that people have for the idea of landscape as heritage. In order to contribute to this discussion, this entry brings three examples from northwest Europe. The three case studies illustrate mono-, inter-, and transdisciplinary regional project descriptions that depart from a “natural” landscape perspective. Landscape as heritage is discussed both as a natural and as a culturally induced phenomenon, for example, in conditions of drowning, and from solutions offered by designers as well as from an application for an aspiring UNESCO geopark. Acceptance of landscape as heritage by a wider audience in the future may give people a sense of pride and facilitate a sustainable transition in the Anthropocene or Holocene.
