Het Nieuwe Werken (na corona)

Translated title of the contribution: New types of work after the corona crisis

Abstract

From the perspective of modern trade and labour market theory, this article poses the question to what extent our work will be changed after the corona crisis. Undeniably, the crisis has resulted in job destruction but, for the time being, not so much in rising unemployment. However, after the crisis things are different and new jobs are to be created. It appears that some old types of jobs will return, but that the crisis will also lead to new forms of work and therefore to other types of jobs. The new way of working after corona will not differ in principle from trends that have already manifested themselves in the labour market. Routine jobs will disappear and knowledge and competences will increasingly focus on being able to cooperate effectively and respond to new developments. An additional change is that working and buying on internet will become more important and that some industries, such as international tourism and business travel, will have to shrink.
