Abstract

In this contribution I critically address the practical and theoretical attitude of the philosopher John Locke towards the trans-Atlantic slave trade and the colonial system of chattel slavery of people of African descent, in connection with the question how we should deal with the colonial context of social contract theory in current courses of legal philosophy on law schools in the Netherlands and beyond.
