Abstract
In the past decades, research into scars has seen a large number of technological
innovations. These include advances in in vitro scar models, new microstructural
assessment techniques, and novel clinical devices aimed at precise clinical assessment
of scars. These innovations are used in the chapters of this thesis to further elucidate
the role that collagen plays in formation and maintenance of pathological scars. In
parallel, the biomechanical aspects of scar formation are addressed using the abovementioned techniques.
