    Abstract

    An overview of religious education in Egypt, which is predominantly
    Islamic religious education. But Christian religious
    education is also provided for the Christian minority.
    A quite extensive
    overview of the goals and content of Islamic religious education
    has been appended to this paper, showing that it is
    modern, i.e. it helps young people to recognize the Islamic
    perspective on current ideas and issues and shows that Islam
    plays an active part in implementing human values, ethics, and
    culture
