Abstract
It is now well established that positive meaning in the workplace is a significant source of motivation. In our proposed Symposium, we will take a step back and shine the light on the intricacies of meaning making. The five papers to be presented and discussed will illumine different underlying mechanisms in meaning making. The papers consider the dynamism, the relational perspective, the influence of self and others, and the different contexts in the meaning making process. In doing so the papers advance theory and set the ground for future research on meaning making. Given the benefits of positive meaning in the workplace, these insights on meaning making will also be invaluable to managers, leaders, and other practitioners.
