Abstract

The time-integrated 𝐢⁒𝑃 asymmetry in the Cabibbo-suppressed decay 𝐷0β†’πΎβˆ’β’πΎ+ is measured using proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.7  fbβˆ’1 collected at a center-of-mass energy of 13Β TeV with the LHCb detector. The 𝐷0 mesons are required to originate from promptly produced 𝐷*+→𝐷0β’πœ‹+ decays, and the charge of the companion pion is used to determine the flavor of the charm meson at production. The time-integrated 𝐢⁒𝑃 asymmetry is measured to be π’œπΆβ’π‘ƒβ‘(πΎβˆ’β’πΎ+)=[6.8Β±5.4Β±1.6]Γ—10βˆ’4 where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The direct 𝐢⁒𝑃 asymmetries in 𝐷0β†’πΎβˆ’β’πΎ+ and 𝐷0β†’πœ‹βˆ’β’πœ‹+ decays, π‘Žπ‘‘πΎβˆ’β’πΎ+ and π‘Žπ‘‘πœ‹βˆ’β’πœ‹+, are derived by combining π’œπΆβ’π‘ƒβ‘(πΎβˆ’β’πΎ+) with the time-integrated 𝐢⁒𝑃 asymmetry difference, Δ⁒𝐴𝐢⁒𝑃=π’œπΆβ’π‘ƒβ‘(πΎβˆ’β’πΎ+)βˆ’π’œπΆβ’π‘ƒβ‘(πœ‹βˆ’β’πœ‹+), and other inputs, giving π‘Žπ‘‘πΎβˆ’β’πΎ+=(7.7Β±5.7)Γ—10βˆ’4,π‘Žπ‘‘πœ‹βˆ’β’πœ‹+=(23.2Β±6.1)Γ—10βˆ’4,with a correlation coefficient corresponding to 𝜌 =0.88. The compatibility of these results with 𝐢⁒𝑃 symmetry is 1.4 and 3.8 standard deviations for 𝐷0β†’πΎβˆ’β’πΎ+ and 𝐷0 β†’πœ‹βˆ’β’πœ‹+ decays, respectively. This is the first evidence for direct 𝐢⁒𝑃 violation in a specific 𝐷0 decay.
