Abstract
Aim: To investigate whether the use of muscle mass ratios can properly adjust for body size. Findings: For all ratios investigated, the prevalence of low muscle mass was dependent on BMI, regardless of body composition method use, sex or data sample. Message: Regardless of the muscle mass – body size ratio being used, cut-off values for low muscle mass need to be BMI-specific.
