Abstract
The pursuit of more welfare is an important goal of economic policy. But what exactly is in this context meant by 'welfare'? And how can the objective of 'more welfare' be achieved? This book sheds a sharp light on the complexity of the differentiated perspectives of societal welfare, where personal preferences and political preferences determine the pursuit of prosperity. From that perspective, the book challenges us to think about how we can pursue economic growth and welfare in a way that does justice to our modern society and the many conflicting interests therein. It argues that new welfare is to come from a broad concept of welfare, in which all interests are taken into account - not only those of the current population, but also those of future generations. This book provides a kaleidoscopic picture of what the path to new, inclusive welfare could look like. Against the background of a polarized society and the coarsening of the political debate, this results in ten scientifically based guidelines that are desperately needed for finding that path.
