This paper is part of a larger study in Kenya and India conducted by a consortium comprising of African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC), Global Health 50/50 (GH5050), and the International Center for Research on Women (ICRW). The authors are grateful to consortium members for their invaluable contributions during the study design and implementation. Their expertise in gender, health, and development was essential in ensuring that the study addressed pertinent issues at the intersection of gender, leadership and health. The authors would also like to express our gratitude to the study participants: health managers of various cadres who took time out of their busy schedules to participate in the qualitative study. We would also like to appreciate the immense contributions of our data collection team. The study data collection in Kenya was supported by a sub-award to the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation through Global Health 50/50 (GH5050). However, no direct funding was obtained to prepare this manuscript.
