Abstract

© 1999 IEEE.We discuss a symbol by symbol optimal a-posteriori probability (APP) decoding algorithm that only uses forward recursions. Originally, this algorithm was described for optimum soft-output detection for channels with ISI and is called the optimum soft-output algorithm (OSA). We have proven the convergence of the OSA and show that it is a generalization of the Viterbi algorithm.
