Abstract

Organizations are increasingly pressured to contribute to a greener society and to improve team performance. Research shows that by adopting green human resource management (green HRM), organizations foster green work behaviors and improve green workplace performance. However, whether this also applies to non-green workplace outcomes such as performance in a team context remains a question that is unexplored. This research addresses this gap by examining whether green HRM is related to performance through the mediating effect of green work behaviors at the team level. Analyses of the multi-sourced data from 63 teams show that team perceptions of green HRM are indeed related to team performance through the mediating effect of green team behaviors (i.e., in- and extra-role behaviors). This study discusses how the findings offer important implications for green HRM research and practice.
