Abstract

The Flashforward Proce dure can be extremely effective in rapidly assisting the progress of EMDR Therapy in situations where the processing of past events is not suffi cient. Some therapists may be reluctant to use this procedure, as it involves tapping into clients’ darkest fears. However, therapists should remind themselves that, for clients, these fears are always present and it is often therapists who are more reluctant to confront such fears than clients are. When clients have been carefully prepared and therapists know their clients well, the Flashforward Procedure can become another valuable tool in the EMDR therapist’s toolkit.
