Abstract

In the autumn of 2009, VU University Amsterdam initiated a fieldwork project, in collaboration with the 11th Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities, at the archaeological site of Plakari near Karystos in southern Euboia, and in its immediate surroundings. This article presents the background to and general outline of the project, and a preliminary report on the first campaign, which included topographical research at the site and a study of earlier finds from the site in the Archaeological Museum of Karystos.
