Abstract
In recent decades, in the Netherlands kickboxing has shown a remarkable transformation. The full-contact martial art had a bad reputation because of links to the criminal underworld but it changed into a mainstream activity serving a broad market. This article outlines the powers behind that change and makes a distinction between structural and cultural elements.
