Abstract

Various changes in volatile environment force organizations to redesigning their approach to strategy-making. However, the literature to date does not provide much evidence on how those changes affect the roles of corporate strategy professionals. This study aims to understand the roles and relevance of corporate strategy professionals over time. We report a longitudinal case study of the corporate strategist teams in a large telecommunication organization Telco. Our study suggests the heterogeneity of strategy teams. Besides that, we demonstrate how change of the dominant strategic issues influence the configuration of communication channels that consequently affect the roles and tasks of strategy professionals. We argue that communication channels are dynamic and are shaped by multiple actors within an organization.
