Abstract
Due to changes in the company and its environment, distribution control requirements will change. Knowledge of the criteria influencing the successful application of distribution control techniques is needed in order to make these changes. This article investigates these criteria. After a description of redesign of distribution systems, a framework of control decisions is introduced and explained. It is then shown how each of the decisions depends on the characteristics of the products distributed, the markets served and the processes used. © 1999, MCB UP Limited
