Abstract
In this blog I first argue that instead of belittling the role of the theological traditions we are part of we should rather acknowledge their abiding value by carefully listening to them and learning from them. Next, I point out three reasons why this does not imply that the tradition has it all right by default. Instead, the theological task is to test and evaluate traditions in light of the gospel - and, led by the Spirit, the church will have to discern in what cases it will have to recalibrate and revise specific traditions in this light. Thus, as the saying goes, the church is always being reformed in accordance with the word of God - even if that means abandoning or readjusting some tradition.
