Abstract

This report, commissioned by WWF Belgium and conducted by the Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM) at VU Amsterdam, reveals for the first time that both fossil fuel dependency and climate extremes have contributed to inflation in Belgium over the past decade. It introduces two key concepts—fossilflation and climateflation—highlighting how environmental factors are tightly linked to economic stability. The report also provides concrete policy recommendations to help mitigate these risks.
